TREVOR Rawlings was delighted to see his Corsham Town team upset the odds and end their season on a high.

After a handful of last-minute drop-outs, Corsham were forced to travel to Wellington with a bare eleven and their energy-sapping task was made all the more difficult when they were reduced to ten men with around 20 minutes to go.

Adam Devine was shown two yellow cards but a depleted Corsham still got their hands on all three points after defender Sam Ockwell fired home the only goal of the game after his initial free-kick was blocked.

“I was pretty disappointed with the two lads that let us down by dropping out on the Saturday morning but I was really pleased to get the win,” said Corsham manager Rawlings.

“It was backs against the wall in the second half but everyone worked really hard, especially when we ended up with ten men.

“Adam Devine got sent off and we’re not sure why – first he got a yellow card for a tackle that wasn’t even a foul and then he’s shouted at himself and the linesman has flagged up for that.

“It was obviously tough after but we still managed to win the game and that was great.”

Victory on Saturday rubber-stamped a top-ten finish in the Toolstaiton League First Division for Rawlings’ men.

Corsham are currently ninth in the table but could be overtaken by Cheddar, who host Welton Rovers in their final league fixture next weekend.

Rawlings added: “It was a good end to the season. We still finished as the highest Wiltshire side in the league, which is what we wanted.”
