WESTBURY & District skipper Alex Senneck is targeting an immediate return to the Glos/Wilts Division following his side’s relegation last summer.

Senneck’s side won just five of their 18 league games last term to finish second from bottom in the table, dropping them down a level for the 2015 campaign.

Westbury got off to a flier last term and won their opening league fixture but a terrible run then followed as they were victorious just twice more in the next 15 fixtures.

“Relegation was very frustrating. We got into a position where we looked like being contenders at the start of the season but then things went against us,” said Senneck.

“I broke my thumb in the fifth game and ended up missing eight weeks through injury and midway through the season our overseas player decided he wanted to go and play for someone else.

“We want to get promoted back at the first attempt, that’s what we will be trying to achieve this season.”

Westbury have brought Lydon Gibbons back to Wellhead Lane in an effort to boost their promotion chances, with the Australian smashing just shy of 1,500 runs during his previous stint for the club in 2013.

“Lydon is a hard-hitting top order batsman,” said Senneck.

“We had him two seasons ago and he did very well and now we’ve got him back in. We are expecting big things from him.

“We’ve also got Rich Mills back in after he was away last year. We’re pleased to have him back because he has got a lot to offer.

“We haven’t had a great deal of recruitment and we have looked to focus on our own players.

“Relegation made us have a long hard look at ourselves and the way we do things. We want to look at the next ten years rather than just getting players in season by season.”

Westbury kick off the campaign at home to Marlborough and Senneck has set his sights on a winning start.

He said: “We want to get off to a positive start and get an early win under our belts because that would set the tone for the season.”
