BRADFORD Town marched into the next round of the FA Cup after gunning down United Services Portsmouth.

Sam Jordan got Town off the mark in the 21st minute when he got his head on a cross from Chris Williams.

Bradford had plenty of chances to double their advantage before the break but failed to take them.

However, as the game became stretched at the end, Tom Evans played a good through ball to Rickie Scott, who finished in emphatic style with an overhead kick to all but kill the tie in the 77th minute.

“The result was pleasing and it is good money for the club as well,” said manager Paul Shanley.

“The performance isn’t probably where we want to be with it, but we’ll take the result over the performance in cup games.

“We are just pleased to get through to the next round.

“We dominated for long spells and they didn’t really trouble us; maybe once or twice towards the end when they were pushing.

“We had enough chances to win the game by half time but we didn’t take them and at 1-0, it is always a bit uneasy, but we killed the game off with about 15 minutes to go.

“I wouldn’t say we deserved to win. The performance wasn’t great, but overall, we got the result.

“We would like to get a good run in the FA Cup because it is good money for the club and it gives the players a chance to make a name for themselves.”

Bradford now turn their attentions to the league when they travel to Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday, with Shanley’s team looking for their first win.

“I would say they are probably one of the favourites to win the league,” he added.

“They have a very strong side so it will be a difficult place to go.

“We’re strong this season and the players we have brought in are starting to gel a bit now so hopefully we can go down there and give a good account of ourselves.”
