CORSHAM put two bad results behind them to romp to a landslide 131-run win over Bristol at Station Road.

Captain Ashur Morrison set the tone for his side as a fine knock of 82 helped Corsham post 202 on a tricky wicket as Bristol’s Dan Jones took 4-27.

The home bowlers then took control of the contest as Bristol started their reply, with James Arney leading the way with fine figures of 5-22.

Tom Foley also turned in an inspired spell to take 3-11 as the visitors were dismissed for just 71.

Opener James Foley was left unbeaten on 33 for Bristol, with none of his team-mates able to score more than 10.

“It was a very pleasing day’s work. To bowl a team out for 71 is a very good effort by anyone’s standard,” said a delighted Morrison.

“The wicket was a little bit wet and the odd ball did dip and move about a bit, so 202 was a pretty competitive score all things considered.

“On a personal note, it’s always good to chip in with a few runs and I felt like I played pretty well but the most important thing is that it set the team up well.

“The bowlers all bowled magnificently and did everything I asked of them and it was just a great day for us overall.”

Back-to-back defeats against Taunton Deane and Frocester at the start of the month ended Corsham’s title chase but they are still on course for a lofty league finish this term.

Morrison’s men are fourth in the table with just two games to go.

“Once we realised we couldn’t win the league anymore, our main objective was just to try to keep our place in the league as it is so tight, but I think we have pretty much done that now,” added Morrison.

“I think it’s been a very good season. Doing the double over Bath was great and I don’t think any other captain has done that before.

“And we’ve beaten the likes of Bridgwater and Taunton St Andrews, and probably should have beaten Frocester twice too.”
