TROWBRIDGE captain Mike Reynolds is confident his side can stay the course and lift the Wiltshire Division trophy having comfortably seen off challengers Marlborough.

Having won the toss, visitors Marlborough opted to bat but it was a decision they soon regretted as Luke Seymour (2-11) and Andrea Agathangelou’s 3-19 saw Marlborough reach just 108 in 45 overs.

In reply Reynolds hit an unbeaten 57 as Trowbridge cruised to victory for the loss of just one wicket to put them in the driving seat at the top of the division with two games remaining.

“I thought that Marlborough would put up a bit more resistance, but they were missing a few players and we managed to get the key men out at the right times,” said Reynolds.

“I was quite happy that they won the toss because it was one of those pitches where I wasn’t too sure what we wanted to do.

“We exploited the new ball perfectly. Luke showed real class for 2-11 from his seven overs, and Sammy Day (0-14) was quite unlucky to be wicketless from his seven over.

“It was good to contribute to the team’s performance as well. I have been getting a few 40s and getting out recently so it was good to get over the half-century mark.

“We’re all in a pretty good state of mind at the moment and hopefully we can carry that into this weekend.

However second-placed Westbury will be pushing them all the way as they secured a 14-run victory away to Winsley.

Jared Mcdonald (97) top scored for Westbury as they set their hosts a target of 267 for the loss of five wickets.

After a slow start, Alain Hewett (95) and Jonathan Keepen (52) helped push Westbury all the way but Alex Senneck (2-33) and Richard Mills (4-50) ensured that their hosts came up 16 runs shy, to jump above Marlborough into second place, 30 points behind Trowbridge.

“I don’t think we have got to concentrate too much on what Westbury do,” added Reynolds.

“We have just got to concentrate on our own skills and if we do the same things we have done the last few games then there is no reason why we shouldn’t win this league.”
