FROME Town have appointed ex-player Nick Bunyard as their new first-team manager following the departure of Adrian Foster at the weekend.

The former Paulton Rovers boss takes the helm at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium after Foster was relieved of his duties following a poor start to the new Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division season.

The Robins are without a win so far in 2015-16 and have collected just three points from their opening five games.

In a statement released on Sunday following the Robin’s 5-1 loss away at Chesham United, the club announced: “After a meeting of the board today, (we) have agreed to terminate the contract of manager Adrian Foster.

“Foster joined the Robins in December 2013 from Gillingham Town in the Toolstation Premier Division and completed 87 games in charge.

“During his spell with the club, he helped steer the club clear of relegation in those two seasons and also reached the final of the Somerset Premier Cup.

“The directors wish to place on record their thanks to Adrian for his efforts both on and off the pitch and wish him, his wife Becky, and his family all the best for the future.”

Frome have since moved to appoint former player Bunyard as Foster’s replacement, although he is currently away on business and goalkeeping coach Lloyd Chamberlain will lead the Robins in the upcoming Bank Holiday double header against Kettering Town and Poole Town.

Bunyard was part of Simon White’s Frome squad that clinched the Toolstation League Division One title back in 2002 and played 48 times for the club before moves to Chippenham Town and Paulton.

His playing career ended prematurely through a long-standing injury and he moved into management with Paulton.

He guided them to promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in May 2014 after beating Merthyr Town in the Division One South & West play-off final and established them as one of the toughest sides to beat in their maiden season in the division before resigning at the end of last season.

In a statement on the club’s website, Town chairman Jeremy Alderman said: “We are delighted that Nick has agreed to join us.

“He is full of enthusiasm and can see what we are trying to do at Frome - we didn’t need to sell the club to him and we now need to look forward and try to win back some of the supporters who have drifted away over the last few years.

“Nick will be given the time he needs to get things right and the most important thing is for everybody to get behind the new management team on Saturday when we play host to Kettering Town.

“It’s a new start for everybody, the players included.”
