BATH’S Sam Burgess is set to miss out on England’s final game of the World cup after not being named in the matchday squad.

The centre came off the bench during England’s 33-13 defeat to Australia, and has since been linked with a move back to rugby league.

However, head coach Stuart Lancaster has rubbished those rumours and has said that Burgess is looking forward to returning to Bath.

"It's just the team for this game,” he said.

“I've not had any conversations with [Burgess] about a move to rugby league.

“I genuinely, 100 per cent didn't know that story was even out there.

“My last conversation with him was about going to back to Bath and he can't wait to go back."

Saturday’s defeat left England unable to make it out of the group stages and Lancaster has shuffled the pack, making nine changes ahead of their game with Uruguay at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Chiseldon’s Jonny May is also absent from the matchday squad, while fellow Bath club teammates Anthony Watson and Geroge Ford start.

Jonathan Joseph slips to the bench, along with former Melksham full back Mike Brown.
