DIVISION Two promotion hopefuls Westbury Town and Melksham Town A put their unbeaten records on the line at Leighton Sports Centre and it was the former who increased their hopes of lifting the title thanks to a convincing 5-2 success that takes their 100 per cent run to eight games.

Sean Horibin’s penalty for Melksham got Barry Holloway’s side back on level terms after Joe Moloney had given Westbury the lead.

Despite a Melksham revival they found themselves 2-1 at the interval a Nick Mead regained the lead for the hosts.

After the break Westbury moved into the ascendancy with Jon Hogarth making it 3-1 before Mark Young netted a fourth for Jason Edwards' side.

Jake Sainsbury did manage to pulled a goal back for Melksham but it was little more than a consolation and when Phil Hampson fired home Westbury’s fifth of the afternoon the points were already in the bag.

Having fought out a goalless draw with Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves last weekend, Luxol St Andrews Reserves looked on course to do the same at home to AFC Bradley when, after 45 minutes, neither team had broken the stalemate.

However three quick-fire second-half goals helped Luxol to a 3-2 victory over their guests.

The deadlock was broken early in the second half by Luxol’s George Hall and inside a seven minute spell Bradley found themselves 3-0 down as a Ben Howlett double had put Luxol in command.

Bradley fought back well and thanks to a brace from Will Bayley they made a game of things, but it wasn’t to be as Luxol held on to claim their sixth win of the season.

Division Two leaders Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves were beaten by fellow promotion rivals Calne Eagles 5-2 in a game that was gritty and keenly contested.

The match was also much tighter than the final score line suggested. Calne have made a useful habit of scoring late goals this season and it was 2 goals in the last 15 minutes in this match that made the game safe.

With the wind at their backs in the first half Trowbridge enjoyed a lot of possession but found the away side very difficult to break down.

However, their striker Mark Maguire missed a good chance after 18 minutes when he got in behind the Calne backline but his lobbed shot just cleared the crossbar.

With 32 minutes on the clock Calne hit Trowbridge on the counterattack when Mickey Taraskevics latched onto a long pass downfield from Will Lees and finished with a great finish from the edge of the box.

Only three minutes later Calne doubled their lead when Adam Welch smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box after Wanderers only managed to half clear a corner kick.

Just before half time Wanderers got themselves back into the game with a superb shot from Nick Gleeson, who fired home an unstoppable shot from just outside the box.

Right at the start of second half Wanderers enjoyed a lot of pressure on the Calne goal with their prolific goalscoring partnership of Mark Maguire and Ashley Styles always looking dangerous.

Indeed, Calne kept their noses in front due mainly to some great last ditch defending and some superb saves from their goalkeeper Andy Windsor.

Calne also survived a strong penalty appeal after Calne midfielder Harry Ozut blocked the ball on the goal line.

However, it was Calne who scored next after when an Adam Moody free kick was deflected past the Trowbridge keeper with 63 minutes gone.

With 15 minutes left Mickey Taraskevics scored to make the score 4-1 and a few minutes later a sublime lob from Adam Welch made the score 5-1. In the closing stages Mark Maguire scored the game’s final goal from close range to complete the 5-2 scoreline.
