ROSIE Brown will be looking to pick herself up after suffering a setback in her second British Cycling National MTB Cross-Country race.

Having won her first outing in the Expert category, the 24-year-old headed to Plymouth hoping to build on that result.

However, just four minutes into the first lap Westbury Wheelers’ Brown saw those hopes dashed as she could not avoid a fallen rider ahead of her and came off her bike.

“It was frustrating but that’s racing,” she said.

“After the start there was a steep hill before this A line and I knew that if you went into an A line quite tired after you had pushed up a hill, then your balance and concentration can be a bit off.

“I decided to not push too much but one of the girls in front went hard and came off and when I came in her bike was just in the wrong place.

“The marshals were trying to move her and the bike out of the way but I just didn’t have time and went over the top of the handlebars and landed on a rock.

“They didn’t want to move me too much because my back was bad and I had winded myself on the handlebars.

“Looking at the field and how it panned out, I would have been in contention for a good finish but that is how racing goes and sometimes people cause crashes that you can’t do anything about.

“It is really unfortunate and to have the race over after four minutes is annoying but you have got to move on.”

Brown will next compete at round three in Yorkshire on May 14-15, with a southern regional race in between.
