IT was great to see a former England star playing Minor Counties cricket.

On Sunday, we went to Bedfordshire, who had Ashes-winning spinner Monty Panesar in their team.

He is still a quality bowler and while our skipper Mike Coles was able to get down the pitch to him a couple of times and hit him for four, Monty still had plenty in his locker to keep him pinned down.

It was an interesting battle and I’m sure that Mike enjoyed it.

I think on the balance of play, Bedfordshire deserved their 38-run win but I was very disappointed in the attitude of a couple of a players.

Ashur Morrison decided to put his club (Corsham) before the county and did not make himself available, while Steve Bullen asked to make his own way and was late for the meeting point, so I made him 12th man.

They are both decent batsmen and had they had the right discipline and played, things may have been different.

I felt that we played reasonably well. We bowled fairly well, but you have to give a lot of credit to George Thurstance, who got a ton.

What it means is that every game is a cup final and we have to win all them if we are to qualify, and that starts against Suffolk on Sunday.

Suffolk are likely to come to Warminster this weekend with Mervyn Westfield in their side.

He was found guilty of spot-fixing in 2012 and went to prison for it.

For me, he has admitted his part, served his time and should be allowed this second chance.

Should he do it again, then obviously the penalty is going to have to be a lot more severe.
