SKIPPER Mike Reynolds is hoping that his Trowbridge side are primed to hit top gear when they lock horns with rivals Westbury on Saturday.

After winning their first two matches of the season, Trowbridge make the short trip to Wellhead Lane this weekend to take on Alex Senneck’s Westbury, who finished second in the table behind Reynolds’ men last term.

Trowbridge head into the clash off the back of a comfortable 140-run triumph at Great Bedwyn but Reynolds reckons that his team will still need to improve if they are to seal a hat-trick of early-season victories.

“It’s great that we’re two from two but I don’t think that we’ve played as well as we can do yet,” said the Trowbridge captain.

“We’ve kept things simple and just concentrated on hitting that ball, which has helped – sometimes, you can get carried away if you have too many complex ideas.

“No disrespect to the other teams (Trowbridge also beat Devizes by one wicket on May 7) but this will be our first big game.

“In a way, Westbury are our rivals. We always have big games against them and we’re going to have to be at 100 per cent. I’m excited to see us at 100 per cent.”

Reynolds was Trowbridge’s star performer with both bat and ball as Bedwyn, who won the toss and chose to field first, were put to the sword.

The visiting skipper hit 14 fours and five sixes on his way to a hefty 119 whilst overseas wicketkeeper Brendon Louw also smashed away 118 from just 84 balls, his total including four fours and nine sixes.

Bedwyn’s Richard Bosson took three wickets but could do little to prevent Trowbridge posting 332-8.

Reynolds came to the fore again as he took 4-40 during the hosts’ run chase and despite although Rob Palmer knocking away 99 from 101 deliveries, his side were skittled for 192 in 39 overs.

Westbury slipped to disappointing seven-wicket loss at Purton, with Senneck’s side skittled for 160 in just over 46 overs before the hosts reached 163-3 in the 31st over.
