JAZZ Carlin is yet to decide which disciplines she will be competing at when she heads to Rio for the Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old Swindon swimmer, who now lives in Bradford on Avon, will be competing at her first Games in August and is currently in France as she continues to balance training alongside competition.

Having sat out the first of the Mare Nostrum series in Monaco, Carlin is in action today in Canet-en-Roussillon as she goes in the 800m freestyle followed by the 200m freestyle, before taking to the pool tomorrow in the 400m freestyle.

The University of Bath-based swimmer is currently sitting sixth in the world rankings for both the 800m and 400m, based on times recorded this calendar year.

Carlin clocked 8:23.52 in the 800m freestyle as she claimed silver at the European Championships, while the Commonwealth champion has a season’s best time of 4:04.33 in the 400m, a time she recorded en route to gold in the British Championships – a time that secured her Rio place.

Meanwhile, Carlin is ranked 24th in the world in the 200m with a time of 1:57.62 and she admits that event would be the joker in the pack if she opted to swim in all three in Brazil, with the 4x200m freestyle also an option for the 25-year-old.

“Once you have booked your place in the Olympic team, then it is up for discussion,” she said.

“I am confident that I will be swimming in the 400m and 800m in Rio and then hopefully a relay as well; I always enjoy the relays.

“The main focus is for the 400m and the 800m, and there will be talks closer to the time about the relay swim there.

“I think the 200m is always a good bonus event. Obviously, with the relay, it always helps because I struggle a little bit with the front-end speed, so the 200m is good to put in because it helps my speed and helps the front end of my race.”
