A RECORD field of 250 runners lined up on The Common in Broughton Gifford for the sixth running of the popular Great Chalfield 10k race.

First to complete the undulating course was Simon Nott, of Calne Running Club, who set a new course record of 32 minutes and 42 seconds to win ahead of the duo of Rich Ayling and Mike Rose, from Avon Valley Runners.

In the ladies’ event, Leah Sartain, of Avon Valley Runners, took the honours ahead of Catherine Dale, from Team Bath, and Clare Wood, of Avon Valley Runners.

Meanwhile, a total of 38 teams took part in the seventh running of the Avon Valley Relay, held over four self-navigated stages covering 17 miles between Bradford on Avon Rugby Club in Winsley and Trowbridge Rugby Club in Hilperton.

Leading the way to victory were Team Bath AC, ahead of host club Avon Valley Runners’ junior team in second place overall.

In fifth place were Corsham Running Club, who took the mixed team prize while Team Bath took the ladies’ team title.
