WARMINSTER’S rocky season is showing no signs of dissipating after they fell to another defeat.

Tom Davie’s men currently sit second-from-bottom in Premier Two Glos/Wilts and Saturday’s seven-wicket loss at Rockhampton was their fifth of the campaign.

The Sambourne Road skipper was left to rue a number of his batmen, himself included, who got into their thirties before losing their wickets, as they were dismissed for 199.

“We needed one of us in the top order to go and make 60 or 70 and then we would have gone on to make around 240 and that should have been enough,” Davie said.

While the captain was disappointed of a lack of big score, Warminster also saw their tail slip away without much of a fight.

The visitors to south Gloucestershire had recovered from the loss of an early wicket to 183-6, however, the last four wickets fell for only 16 runs.

“We do have a bit of a longer tail than most,” the skipper said. “I’d say that we have got three number 11s and that is tough.”

But having struggled with the bat, the bowlers made life tough for their hosts with Rory Cullinan and John Powell only conceding 16 runs from the opening 12 overs, before Rockhampton eased home in the 49th over following an unbeaten 118-run fourth wicket stand between Jamie Wakefield (51*) and Will Tyler (66*).

“They bowled very well,” Davie said. “We just didn’t have enough runs on the board to defend.

“We just need to turn things around – starting Saturday (at home to third-from-bottom Gloucester City Winget).

“We have to work harder, train harder and I’m sure that things we turnaround.”
