ED Nightingale was the star paddler for Wiltshire last weekend at the National Junior Kayak Sprint Championships at Holme Pierrepont Nottingham, bagging four U14 national titles.
In the K1 events, he won both the 200m and 500m events before joining forces with new K2 partner Carlos Lopez (Richmond) to win both distances again.
Following this stellar performance, he becomes the youngest member of the GB squad selected for the prestigious Olympic Hopes regatta to be held in Hungary later this year.
Flossie Ball topped the girls’ medal haul with a national title in the K4 500m, a silver in the U14 K1 500m and silver medals in the K2 200m and 500m events with Longridge paddler Georgia Carmichael.
Other medal-winning performances over the weekend included Bradford’s Harriet Quigley, who struck gold with Bronte Holden (Fowey) in the K2 200m and finished in bronze medal position in the National Talent Squad’s K4.
Bradford teammate Calum Gingell joined forces with the Scottish Development Squad to win two bronzes in the U18 K4 events and Jodie Ball finished third in the U16 K2 200m event.
Harriet Quigley will be representing GB at the Marathon World Cup in Portugal later this month, while Calum Gingell, Freddie Brown and Jodie Ball don GB vests for the Junior European Wild Water Championships next week in Austria.
