TROWBRIDGE’S Nathan Dyer is ready to rejuvenate his career at Swansea City but will have one eye on the Olympic Games when the Premier League season gets under way this weekend.

The 28-year-old has recently signed a new contract with the Welsh side, having spent last season on loan at Premier League champions Leicester City.

It is a four-year deal that will take him to the end of his career, according to the former St Laurence School pupil, and he is now hoping that he can work his way back into the Swansea team having played a big role during their pre-season campaign.

“It’s great to be back with Swansea,” he said.

“I have been at Swansea for seven to eight years now so it is nice to come home and play with my team but it was a great year for me last year as well.

“It was amazing, I went on loan to get some more game time but it didn’t turn out that way, I got more substitute appearances than starts and the team was on fire.

“I just run with it and it was great to be part of that team that went on to win the title.

“I played with an Italian (Claudio Ranieri at Leicester) and now I have an Italian manager here (Francesco Guidolin at Swansea) so it is similar thought patterns that helped to adapt my game and I can bring that back to Swansea and help some of the young boys.

“I hope to start well and impress the boss here. Hopefully I have done that (during pre-season) and I can come back into the team and get some minutes.

“I was going into the final year of my contract, so it was nice to sign a new deal. The new deal will keep me here until I finish.”

However, while his Premier League campaign starts away to Burnley tomorrow, he will be keeping an eye on events in Rio as well, with close friend Danny Talbot competing in the 200m.

The pair have grown up together and their mums are close friends, with Talbot also playing in the same Trowbridge Town side as retired boxer Nick Blackwell, and Dyer will be cheering Talbot on from his sofa.

“It is amazing,” he added. “He has been doing really well with his running and I don’t see him that much any more because he is off doing his thing and I am doing what I am doing.

“I am so pleased for him, he is such a nice guy and I will be making sure to watch him when he is on TV.”
