WILTSHIRE’S two Premier Division sides were walking eight miles high this week as both Bradford Town and Melksham Town recorded sizeable victories.

Having seen Darren Perrin’s Melksham put eight goals past Longwell Green Sports on Tuesday night, Bradford set about emulating their county counterparts 24 hours later at Sherborne Town.

Goals from Michael Reaney and Matthew Morris in the first four minutes set the tone for the evening as a brace from Karim Rendall, either side of another Morris strike, put Danny Greaves’ side five goals to the good at the break.

Christopher Peck continued the flow of goals in the second half, with Reaney netting his second and substitute Jack Hooper also getting in on the act.

However, a consolation goal for Sherborne prevented Bradford from copying Melksham’s result but Greaves said a big win had been coming for his troops.

“It’s been a bit of a frustrating, with three draws out of the first three games, and I didn’t personally think we got what we deserved,” said Greaves, whose side had been held to a 3-3 draw at Bridport last weekend.

“On Wednesday, everything clicked.

“We took our chances, we got some early goals, which helped, and then we have settled down and played our football.

“We felt we had been playing well and it was only a matter of time before it clicked and we would put three or four goals past somebody. To score eight massively exceeded our expectations.”

Melksham sit top of the league after their 3-1 defeat of Buckland Athletic, courtesy of a Luke Ballinger hat-trick, was followed up by an 8-0 demolition of Longwell.

Ballinger, Gary Higdon and Ben Thomson all helped themselves to braces, whilst Dave Thompson and Shaun Benison also got themselves on the scoresheet.

Melksham now face Bristol Manor Farm at the weekend, while Bradford face bottom-of-the-league Bitton.

Greaves added: “Looking at Bitton’s results, they have been struggling but we will be expecting another tough game.

“On the back of our result and their result, they will be right up for it and come out at us and we need to be professional.”
