FROME Town’s fine start to the new Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division season continued last weekend as the Robins came from behind to earn a share of the spoils at Kings Langley.

The Robins trailed 2-1 following a below-par first-half showing in Hertfordshire but improved after the break and levelled things up through Jake Jackson to earn a 2-2 draw.

The hosts, who were Division One Central champions last term, threatened early on as Lewis Toomey just failed to convert a Sean Coughlan cross and they went ahead with 21 minutes on the clock when Jack Waldren found the net, the wing-back slotting away after Darren Chitty has saved his initial effort.

But Kings’ lead only lasted six minutes as Frome’s Dan Cleverley rose highest to head home Jon Davies’ left-wing free-kick.

The home side’s Gary Connolly and the Robins’ Darren Jefferies both went close at either end of the pitch but Kings soon had their noses back in front when Coughlan made a weaving run into the box and was brought down, allowing Toomey to fire home from the penalty spot.

The hosts had further chances to press the issue home before the break, with Coughlan just missing a Toomey cross and Dean Hitchcock firing a free-kick straight into the hands of Chitty but half-time arrived to allow the visitors an opportunity to steady the ship.

Toomey and Coughlan both struck just past the Frome post early in the second period whilst Chitty was then forced to push the former’s cross onto the woodwork as the home team continued to turn the screw.

But Frome weathered that storm and hauled themselves back into the contest, with Mitchell Page breaking clear in the 70th minute and setting up Jackson to bag his fourth goal in as many games, restoring parity and keeping the Robins flying high.
