MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin was delighted with his team after they drew 2-2 away at Street on Tuesday.

Despite taking a first-half lead through Michael Perrott’s early effort, the hosts were able to equalise through Craig Herrod.

Gary Higdon then put the visitors back in front just before the interval but the home side equalised again in the first minute of the second half through Josh Wadham.

Neither team were able to find the all-important third goal as the match finished all-square at the Tennery Ground.

“It was a great advert for Western League football. It was end-to-end; a tough competitive game between two good sides,” said the Melksham manager.

“In the end, I have got to say that a draw was a fair result.

“We went 1-0 up in the fourth minute through a volley from Michael (Perrott) but then they equalised in the 12th minute.

“We then went back in the lead on 43rd minute through Higdon but they equalised in the first minute of the second half.’’

Even though his side were unable to grab a win, Perrin claims Melksham have done well to get so many points after some tough games.

“I can’t be critical on the players at all. We've played Buckland Athletic, Willand Rovers and Street away, who are three sides in the top six,” he added.

“To come out with seven points is a great effort from the players and an excellent return, so I am delighted.

“Obviously, we would have liked to have won, but we would have taken the point before the game. It’s been a great start to the season.

“Every point is important and you can say that about every game but it is a good result against a good side.

“They (Street) have improved massively this year and they will certainly win more games than they’ll lose. I have no doubt about that.”

Bradford Town’s unbeaten start to the season ended at the weekend as they slipped to a 1-0 loss at Willand Rovers.

The former leaders slipped to their first defeat of the season when Brett Worbey claimed a 80th-minute winner for the hosts.
