A SAM Jordan double was enough to see Melksham through to the next round of the Les Phillips Cup as they were 2-0 winners over Bishop Sutton on Saturday.

Jordan grabbed his first goal on 16 minutes, but then missed a penalty moments before adding a decisive second to seal the win.

Despite rotating the squad, manager Darren Perrin was happy his side were able to produce a routine win.

“We made a lot of changes from the previous game to freshen things up and keep people in the squad on their toes,” said the Melksham manager.

“We won the game very comfortably, it should have been a lot more convincing but at the end of the day we’re delighted to have progressed to the next round.

“We take every competition seriously, that’s the nature of the football club, the nature of me and the nature of the players.

“By staying in the cup competition it gives me a chance to rotate the squad and keep everybody happy and on their toes.”

After also struggling with injury, Perrin is delighted to have the majority of his squad back fit ahead of a crucial festive period and a tough weekend fixture against Odd Down.

“We have a pivotal six weeks coming up, there is a lot of football and legs will get tired with the midweek fixtures coming up,” added the Town chief.

“That is the importance of having a squad you can trust, you can chuck any player in at any time against any team.

“They (Odd Down) are the defending champions, there were the best team last season and are defending champions for a reason.

“It’ll be a tough game but confidence is high, we relish the opportunity and we relish the battle.”

Warminster Town also made it through to the next round with a 3-0 win over Radstock Town thanks to goals from Jack Miluk, Josh Ferguson and Francois Allen.

Corsham Town narrowly missed out on a place in the next round after a 1-0 loss at home to Cribbs.

Devizes Town were whacked 10-0 by Bristol Manor Farm.

Calne Town moved into the third round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup by winning their local skirmish with Wiltshire League Beversbrook 2-0.

Despite dominating the chances, the home side - featuring new boss Dave Ferris - were unable to break through until the latter stages of the first half when Stuart Windsor slotted home.

Four minutes after half-time, their progress was sealed as Tom Boakes’ long-range effort was deflected into the net.
