MARK Collier believes that Chippenham Town will need to reach new heights if they are to maintain their exalted position at the top of the Southern League Premier Division.

Having occupied the division’s highest perch for 18 days, the Bluebirds manager believes that his team have placed a target on their backs and will need to improve on the sterling work they have already accomplished as opponents up their game.

Collier admits that his team got themselves out of jail as a fumbled cross from goalkeeper Xavi Comas earned them a point at Kings Langley on Tuesday night, with a 1-1 draw extending their unbeaten run to 15 games.

“Myself and Tom (Jones, assistant) are going to keep pushing the players to be as good as they can be,” said the Chippenham chief.

“The work that they’ve all done to get us into this position has been magnificent across the whole season but we’re going to keep pushing because we know that we’re there to be shot at, which we’re comfortable with.

“To be in the middle of February and having only lost four games in tremendous.

“We know that it takes all sorts to win leagues and we’re going to do everything that we can.”

Skipper Jorell Johnson headed 18th–placed Kings Langley into the lead with 58 minutes of the clock but the Bluebirds’ lifeline came six minutes from time when Comas punched a delivery into his own net to let the visitors off the hook.

Collier said: “I tweeted after the game that there’d been a robbery in Kings Langley and we’d stolen a point.

“The players openly admitted that they’d been poor all-round and off the pace, so we’re happy to get a point after such an inept performance.

“We’re thankful for the result and we haven’t become a poor side after one poor performance, but we have to make sure that we improve on Saturday.”

Bristol City youngster Jake Andrews made his second successive start after joining Chippenham on loan at the tail end of last week but his place could be under threat for Saturday’s trip to Stratford Town.

Top scorer Andy Sandell and captain Greg Tindle will both come straight back into Collier’s starting line-up after suspension.
