BRAD Scott is aiming to produce fireworks when he goes toe-to-toe with Scott Ashkam at UFC Fight Night 107 tomorrow night but insists he isn’t scared of going the distance.

The Melksham star, 27, tackles 28-year-old Yorkshireman Scott Askham (17-3) in an all-English middleweight showdown at London’s O2 Arena, with Scott (10-4) tackling his fifth fight in the world’s biggest MMA promotion.

Scott snapped an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee as a result of his unanimous points defeat to Krzysztof Jotko at UFC Fight Night 84 on February 27 2016, extending the Wiltshire fighter’s run of never having tasted victory by decision.

However, 10 of Scott’s pro wins – two of which have taken place in the UFC – have arrived by stoppage, and he is confident of disposing of former BAMMA (British Association of Mixed Martial Arts) middleweight champion Ashkam before the final bell.

“I’m not scared of the decision. I’ve gone the whole way a few times and I’m not scared of it,” Scott told the Wiltshire Times.

“I like the finish because that’s your chance of getting the bonus, you haven’t got to fight for the full 15 minutes, and it’s way better finishing someone – it’s way more of an adrenaline rush, rather than winning by decision.

“I’m feeling good and getting mentally focussed, and ready to kick some ass on Saturday night.

“I had quite major surgery to get my ACL fixed. It was mentally tough but I’m over it now.

“I genuinely believe that I won my last fight so I’m still running off a confidence that I’ve got the ability to go to the decision.

“I thought it was weird that we had an Englishman fighting another Englishman – I thought they’d give me a Scotsman or an Irishman.

“They’ve got (Jack) Marshman and John Phillips (both from Wales) signed and they’ve probably someone from Scotland signed, but I suppose he (Ashkam) is from Doncaster, which is close enough to Scotland.

“I haven’t fought an English person in just over six years, so it’s been a long time but I’m not too fussed at all.

“I think he’s a striker but I’m the better striker, so that’s going to be his biggest downfall. He’s a southpaw, so that makes it a little awkward, but I’m not too fussed.

“I’ll stand in the pocket with him all day if he wants – I’m not too bothered.”
