CHIPPENHAM Town recorded their ninth league double of the season as they extended their unbeaten league run to 21 matches and claimed a six-point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division with five games to go.

The Bluebirds kept faith with the same team that started last week but top scorer Andy Sandell made an appearance for the last 10 minutes after missing several games through injury.

The game got off to a blistering start as all the goals, including a penalty, happened in the opening 24 minutes.

Chippenham took the lead on two minutes when Matt Jones's corner eventually found Dave Pratt and his effort trickled across the line.

Dave Pearce was off target for Chesham before the Bluebirds doubled their lead on 13 minutes.

This time Jones's corner was met by a clean header from Will Richards giving keeper Richard Hayward no chance.

If the Bluebirds fans in the 345 crowd thought they were in for a goalfest they were given a rude awakening two minutes later when the visiting defence failed to clear and Benji Crilley's cross was turned home by Ryan Blake.

However, eight minutes later expectations rose again as Richards's run into the area was crudely halted and Jake Andrews stepped up to convert his third penalty in seven days.

Both sides squandered several chances that could have seen the scoreline doubled but the hard and bumpy surface in reality was the only winner from then on.

On the half hour Pratt was put clean through but despite lobbing the ball over the advancing Hayward it sailed over the bar. Four minutes later Matt Taylor met a long throw and drew a fine close range save from Darren Chitty.

Just before the interval Rhys Baggridge cleared a shot off the line and Danny Talbot's follow-up shot was repelled by Chitty.

Two minutes after the interval Pratt's measured ball over the defence set Andrews free but Hayward did well to close him down and save the shot with his feet.

Andrews then attempted a lob from distance but the Chesham custodian was equal to the task.

On 66 minutes a Talbot corner was not cleared and Crilley was only just wide with a close range effort. Blake then raced clear and threaded the ball past the advancing Chitty but just wide of the far post.

At the other end Andrews produced a smart piece of juggling that ended with Hayward palming away his volley. A further effort from the on-loan Bristol City youngster saw him shoot into the side netting.

Eight minutes from time Pratt again got beyond the home defence but again his lob beat the keeper but went wide.

The home side had two late efforts with Pearce being narrowly off target with a curling shot from ten yards out before Blake saw his shot blocked.
