WESTBURY United joint-manager Joe Kirkpatrick was left frustrated after his side were hit by a late equaliser at Bishops Lydeard last weekend.

Dan Price had put the visitors ahead when he lashed home Jamie Jordan’s free-kick midway through the second half and Kirkpatrick’s troops were then awarded a penalty 10 minutes later which they failed to convert, before the hosts bundled in a 88th-minute equaliser.

The draw brought and end to Westbury’s six-game winning streak, which stretched back to mid-February.

“We started the game really well and for the first 25 minutes we were the better side,” said Kirkpatrick.

“In the first half we had two stonewall penalties not given and I think that frustrated a few of the players.

“During the last 20 minutes of the first-half we let them get the ball down and to be fair to them, they knocked it about nicely.

“The second-half was similar to the first. We came out strong and pushed for the first goal of the game.

“We were awarded a soft penalty but we probably deserved it based on the first half.

“Unfortunately we missed the penalty and that let them get back into the game.”

The Westbury boss acknowledges the penalty miss was probably the pivotal moment of the game ahead of Good Friday’s derby with Warminster Town.

“It was a big miss and the turning point of the game. You could see it gave them confidence.

“Although we did have other chances to finish the game of but on the day we weren’t able to take them.

“That said, we can’t knock the performance and effort once again. We are disappointed not to win but we got a good point away from home.

“All of the lads have been great. They have all bought into what we want to achieve and we are looking to next year already.”

Elsewhere, Warminster Town were unable to make amends for their 3-1 home defeat to Wellington as they lost 3-0 to Keynsham Town.

It was a similar story for Corsham Town as they were beaten 1-0 away to Radstock Town on Saturday afternoon.
