NO play was possible on day two of Wiltshire's Unicorns Championship Western Division clash against Oxfordshire at Great & Little Tew CC today, with the match still finely poised after an eventful opening day.

Wiltshire were set to resume their first innings on 91-5, having dismissed their hosts for just 95 on Sunday, but incessant rain meant the day's play was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Ed Young's visitors appeared to be in an excellent position after dismissing the home side, who had won the toss and elected to bat, inside 43 overs on the first day.

Oxfordshire made a solid enough start, with openers Lloyd Sabin (13) and Thomas Condon (17) guiding them to 30 without loss.

However, seven wickets then fell for 22 runs as the visitors put themselves in control, James Arney taking 4-17 from 16 overs and Jake Goodwin 3-17 from 6.5.

Hendrick Robyns added 21 for Oxfordshire from the middle order, but they failed to reach three figures.

However, Wiltshire's hopes of building up a sizeable first-innings lead were hit as the hosts fought back with the ball, Trowbridge's Mike Reynolds falling for a duck and fellow owner Tom Grant also going cheaply.

Skipper Young hit 25 and Goodwin 12, but the bowling of William Rooney (3-32) and Abidine Sakande (2-26) held the visitors up, Jake Lintott (23 not out) and Ashur Morrison (16 not out) being unbeaten at the crease when a halt was called.

The third and final day's play is expected to resume at 11am tomorrow morning.
