DANNY Talbot is back on the European athletics circuit again this weekend as he races in Holland on Sunday.

The Trowbridge Tornado will run another 200m in the prestigious Hengelo meeting, hoping to better his time of 20.31 seconds that he clocked in Italy last weekend when winning the meeting in Gavardo.

“Racing 200m in Italy felt really strange as I have waited such a long time to do another 200m it almost felt like my season was starting all over again,” said Talbot.

Talbot was referring to the fact that his previous 200m was back on April 15 in Florida during a training camp in America when he scorched to a scintillating lifetime best of 19.86 seconds, albeit the time being assisted by a following wind of 2.9m so could not be counted as a legal time (the legal limit is 2.0m).

In comparison his 20.31seconds in Italy might look sluggish but it was only just outside his legal best of 20.25 seconds which he ran in the semi finals of the Rio Olympics last year and crucially was also inside the UK Athletics qualifying standard for the World Championships in London later this summer.

“I was quite relieved that I managed to get in a time that was legal having the week before run a 10.3 100m at the Loughborough International that was also wind-assisted,” added Talbot.

“With that qualifying time under my belt I can just concentrate on racing and focusing of my technique and executing my races.

“I felt a bit rusty in Italy last week having not raced a 200m for so long so to be so close to my PB and win the race was very encouraging.

“I am not thinking about PBs in Holland this weekend. It is all about executing my race and I am up against a very strong field including my GB team-mate Adam Gemili.

“When I race well then the times will come but it is all about making sure I finish in the top two at the trials and then get selected for the Worlds.

“But for now I am training really well and I am definitely faster than I was before the Olympics last year.”
