DANNY Talbot is hoping to keep the winning habit going all the way to the finals of the World Championships in London.

The Trowbridge Tornado is now back into a hard period of training at his Loughborough University base after impressive back-to-back victories over 200m in Italy and Holland.

The latter was particularly notable as Talbot not only beat British rival Adam Gemili in Hengelo on Sunday but also top South African Anaso Jobodwana, who was third in the World Championships in Beijing two years ago and number one Dutch sprinter and Rio Olympics finalist Churandy Martina.

“These wins have been really good for my confidence,” said Talbot.

“A year or so ago I was not winning these type of races so to progress like that is very encouraging. Apart from Usain Bolt I know there is no-one to be afraid of now.”

Talbot’s hopes of running a legal personal best in Hengelo were scotched by a strong head wind measuring minus 1.2mps so he was not unhappy with the time of 20.36 seconds on top of the 20.31 in Italy the previous weekend.

“To run so close to my legal personal best (20.25) is very encouraging and I know another PB is there and the time to do it will be at the World Championships in London,” added Talbot.

“As soon as I saw the windy conditions on Sunday I knew a really fast time was out of the question so I just focussed on executing my race and doing all the right things that we have been working upon in training.

“To run that fast into a head wind like that is encouraging.”

Talbot will now just race once more before the UK Championships, incorporating the trials for the Worlds on July 1-2, with the Great Britain team at the European Cup meeting in Lille at the end of this month.

“My coach and I decided just to focus on the relay because there are two rounds of the 200m and coming just a week before the trials we thought it would be too much,” explained Talbot.
