Danny Talbot is in a good place for Athletics World Championships in London next month

The Trowbridge Tornado expressed satisfaction with his personal best of 20.20 seconds in the trials the Sunday before last and a solid performance in the Diamond League Anniversary Games in the capital seven days later as he now returns to training to fine-tune his preparations for the big event of the summer which kicks off on August 4.

“Things are going exactly how I hoped they would be at this stage of the season,” said Talbot, who was officially named in the Great Britain team for the 200m and the 4x100m relay on Tuesday.

“I have definitely improved this year and I was really pleased with my personal best at the British Championships.

“The Anniversary Games a week later probably came too soon after the trials to be honest.

“I was just one metre behind the American champion Aaron Webb at 150 metres but then my legs felt dead.

“It wasn’t as fast as I wanted but I can take a lot of positives out of that race, running 20.33secs into a headwind.

“Last year my slowest race like that would have been 20.4/20.5secs so that shows how much I have moved on.

“But it was also good to be back on the London track and experience the warm-up and call-up procedures again ahead of the World Championships.”

Talbot has returned to his base at Loughborough University to begin the final countdown to the Worlds and said he is not planning to race any more 200m before London although he may squeeze in a low-key 100m.

“We are into the final month now so it is just about putting the final touches to my preparations and making sure I am healthy and my body is fully recovered for the Worlds,” added Talbot.

“The last few major championships I have reached the semi finals (including the Olympics in Rio last year) but I feel I am better than that now and the target is definitely to get into my first final.

“I think I can do that in London and I am very excited about the event.”
