MATCHING last year’s finish is a minimum requirement for Bradford Town this season according to manager Danny Greaves.

Last term Bradford were able to record their highest-ever finish, when they came fifth in the Toolstation League Premier Division.

Since then, Greaves has opted to bring in several fresh faces in an attempt to ensure the club continue to progress.

Sam Jordan has returned to the club, while Nathan Loader, Ashton Shanley, Billy Fletcher and Will Hailston have also made their way to the Trowbridge Road.

“Pre-season has gone well. I know all the players personally and a few of them knew some of the players here already, so they have managed to settle in,” said Greaves, who is happy with the competition for places.

“We have to keep looking to progress, so matching what we did last year is an absolute minimum because we have strengthened the squad.

“We have to be looking to improve on that and do better in the cups as well as the league this year.

“Last year we had a difficult last month, we picked up injuries and went into the final week looking light for numbers.

“But we have managed to bring in five, our job is to make sure we keep all of the players happy and that will be a tough job.” The Bradford chief has also identified one weakness from last season which should fire them to a new record finish.

Bradford claimed just one point from a possible 24 against the sides in the top four of the league table and Greaves concedes they need to be more successful against the league’s better teams.

“We struggled against the top sides in the league last year, so we need to be a bit more ruthless and take our chances when they come along in the big games.

“You don’t get many, chances so you need to take them. I’m confident of doing that with the players we’ve got.

Greaves’ Bradford will kick-off their season with a visit from Odd Down on Saturday 5, in the first FA Cup extra-preliminary round.
