BRADFORD Town boss Danny Greaves was pleased to get the Toolstation League Premier Division season off to a winning start to put their FA Cup exit to bed.

The manner in which Bradford fell to a 4-3 defeat at home to Odd Down in the national cup on Saturday left a bitter taste in Greaves’ mouth.

But that was soon washed away on Tuesday night as Mark Wall, wearing the skipper’s armband, scored in the first half and the defence, which had three changes to it with Karim Rendall, James Moon and Ritchie Chandler all coming in, make amends and keep a clean sheet away to difficult opposition in the form of Brislington.

“When the fixtures came out and I saw that we had Brislington away on a midweek, from past experience, you always know it’s going to be a tough start,” said Greaves.

“After Saturday’s performance and result against Odd Down, it made it a tougher game for us and even more important to bounce back.

“It was more the manner of the defeat against Odd Down, the way we conceded the four goals. We were disappointed and we wanted a cup run this year and that hasn’t happened.

“The league is our bread and butter and our main aim is to do well in that so a good start was paramount.

“I set Mark a little target to chip in with more goals this year so it’s a good start personally for him as well.

“I’m delighted with everybody who came in to the defence but it wasn’t just the back four, it was the whole team defending right from the front.

“It was a really good reaction.”

Bradford now face last season’s Division One champions Wellington at home this weekend and, having been held to a 1-1 by newly-promoted Wells City in the opening game of last term, Greaves won’t be taking things lightly.

“We don’t know too much about them,” he added.

“They won the league last season so they will be coming up quite confident on the back of last season’s form.

“Ideally, we’re at home and we’ll want to start quick and get that early goal to take a little bit of that sting out of the game and continue on from where we left off on Tuesday night.”
