AFTER three games, three defeats and 12 goals conceded, Corsham Town manager Jamie Harrison has his first point on the board following their 0-0 draw with Westbury United on Tuesday night.

Following his arrival in the summer, the 35-year-old has struggled to hit the floor running in Corsham’s opening fixtures, which saw the club lose three times in a row, including a 7-0 loss at the hands of Oldland Abbotonians.

Westbury were no pushovers as they went into the game on the back of two wins and a draw from their opening three fixtures.

But with their first clean sheet and point under their belt, Harrison thinks his troops have now set the bar for the rest of the campaign.

“After a tough first week, we had a fantastic performance and every member of the team worked so hard for each other,” said Harrison.

“The players are absolutely buzzing from it now and they have shown what they are capable of when they come together and work hard.

“Westbury had a couple of chances at the end of the game but I am pleased for the boys that we were able to see it out and get that clean sheet.

“We limited their chances and anything that did get through, our goalkeeper Chris Snoddy dealt with.

“I’m really pleased to see out the 90 minutes and get our first point of the season.”

Next up for Harrison and his players is a visit from Ashton & Blackwell United, and the Corsham boss is hoping for a similar performance at the weekend.

“The boys will say it themselves, that is their standard now,” added Harrison, who says it has been a learning curve since joining the club.

“They have to do that every game, if they do that I am sure we will do really well this year.

“Me and my management team are really good at reflecting on what has happened. So far, quite a lot has happened in the first week.

“It was a lot to learn and we know we have some real quality players, but it is knowing how to introduce them to win games.

“Westbury were very experienced and knew how to win at this level and with a few of my team selections I could have been a bit smarter.

“I need to learn how to bring the players in at the right moments, instead of expecting them to deal with the physicality of the game.”

Westbury recorded their second 2-0 win of the season at home to Radstock Town on Saturday, Ricky Hulbert opened the scoring in the first 20 minutes, before Jamie Jordan sealed it in the 93rd minute.

They go to Bishops Lydeard on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Warminster Town were unable to live up to their 4-0 win over Malmesbury, courtesy of doubles from Jack Miluk and Lewis Graham at the weekend, as they were defeated 2-0 by Devizes Town on Tuesday.

Warminster will look to bounce back with a win at home to Portishead Town.
