WESTBURY Ladies made it two wins from two in South West North Two with a closely-fought 34-31 triumph over Chew Valley Ladies on Sunday.

The home side took the lead when captain Anna Hemingway crashed through tackles to score in the corner, but Valley were soon on level terms with a try of their own.

Centre Cara Fitzgerald sent wing Sasha Smith through a gap to restore the lead, Jess Wells adding the conversion, as she did when flanker Holly Noble caught the kick-off and sprinted in from 60 metres.

Chew hit back with a second try, this time converted, but Noble’s second of the match and a Wells conversion moved Westbury further clear, only for Valley to take advantage of lost possession to add another converted score and make it 26-19 at half-time.

Hemingway’s break allowed full-back Wells to cross for another Westbury try in the corner, but the visitors then scored again.

Wells landed a crucial penalty with four minutes to play rendering Chew’s late converted try no more than a consolation.
