CORSHAM Town manager Jamie Harrison says persistence was the key for his youthful side this weekend as they grabbed a late 2-1 win over Bishops Lydeard.

The visitors conceded first in the opening 45 minutes, as relegation concerns continued to cloud Corsham’s campaign.

However, they were able to turn the game on its head in the second half as Chay Forrester got the ball rolling to equalise.

With the final kick of the game, Matt Purdy slotted home the winning goal as Harrison’s troops claimed their ninth win of the season.

“Saturday was a massive three point for us at the end of the day with the final kick of the game which got the winner,” he said.

“They have a slope on their pitch and I probably didn’t appreciate how big it was. I asked my players to play a certain way up the hill, which might have been too demanding.

“Bishops Lydeard were on top in the first half. We created some good chances for ourselves, as good as Lydeard had been, it was only 1-0 at half time.

“It could have been two or three, so the boys did well to keep it to one. Then in the second half, going down the hill, it was all us.

“In the final third our last ball probably let us down a little bit. We had a very young side and they just kept going even if they made mistakes.

“They kept plugging away and eventually got their rewards for doing that.”

Corsham were due to return to action on Thursday night, at Bristol Telephones.

Westbury United sit at the summit after their 1-0 midweek win over Radstock Town.

That victory came off of the back of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sherborne Town, where Dan Kovacs scored twice, in addition to Jamie Jordan’s effort.

Warminster’s search for points rolled into its 12-match after they were beaten 2-1 at Welton Rovers, substitute Matthew Dyer getting the only goal for the away side.

Table-toppers Westbury are now without a fixture until Saturday week, while Warminster host Corsham at the weekend.
