WARMINSTER needed only half of their allocated overs to knock off Swindon’s target of 111 in their opening WEPL Wiltshire contest.

Swindon skipper Alex Kill won the toss and elected to bat first in conditions suited to the men in the middle.

Chris Aubrey and Sean Parker put on a steady 35 for the opening wicket before Aubrey (21) was caught of the bowling of John Powell.

Connor Taylor fell for a first-ball duck shortly after while Kill’s (4) departure left Swindon vulnerable at 68-4.

Liam Tucker (21 not out) steadied Swindon’s ship, but he lacked consistent partners down the other end as middle-order batsman Steve Laggett (8) and Wahab Khalid (nought) fell cheaply.

Daniel Harris also went for a duck while the bottom trio of Tom Codling, Connor O’Shea and Cameron Baden scored six between them, ending Swindon’s disappointing innings on 110.

Dominic Webb starred with the ball for Warminster, returning with figures of 3-14, while Rory Cullinan also struck three times (3-26).

Warminster’s reply never had the home side worried, though Thomas Davie (15) was the first to fall with Warminster on 20.

Jack Berrisford fell 22 runs later, leaving Warminster on 42-2, while Bradley Parry added 17 to the home side’s cause.

The match-winning knock came from Elliot Hooper though.

Hooper hit a run-a-ball 40 before falling while Warminster were three runs short of their target, but David Bateman hit the winning runs with Warminster having four wickets to spare and 24.4 overs.

Warminster picked up 19 points for their efforts.
