WARMINSTER made light work of their WEPL Wiltshire opponents as they completed an eight-wicket win over Purton.

Purton won the toss and elected to bat on home turf but soon felt the wrath of Warminster as they were all out for just 75.

Duo Rory Cullinan and John Powell both registered three wickets each, while Alex Adlam and Elliot Hooper chipped in with two apiece.

With such a low target to chase, Warminster wasted little time and whipped up 76 in no time at all, number two Hooper notched the highest score for the away side, he got 42.

Stand-in skipper Jack Berrisford said: “I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with how we went. Going into the game we won our first two games of the season and so had Purton.

“On paper at least, I thought it was going to be a fairly evenly matched game. We arrived and it was a beautiful day and it looked like a really good wicket.

“When we lost the toss, I thought we could end up chasing 200. We blitzed through their top order and didn’t really give them much of a hope.

“Our bowling attack was very strong and it has been over the last few games. I think they (Purton) were a bit light on availability.

“We have four really good seamers and a good-left arm spinner who backs that up nicely and plenty of other options.

“As the first few well have shown, we bowled Swindon out for 110, Calne for 41 and now Purton for 75 – I think that shows we are strong with the ball.”

Next up for Pete Hickerton’s troops is a home clash with Chippenham, who like Warminster, go into the game with three wins in the bag.

With the skipper missing over the weekend, his return will be a further boost to an already a confident camp.

“It’s hard to judge what to expect, unless you have already played them. They are going to be up there at the end of the season, they’re a strong club by all accounts,” added Berrisford.

“Given how we have performed in the last two games I don’t think we have anything to fear because we are confident, especially with the ball.

“With the bat we aren’t lacking confidence, we just haven’t had the chance to have a good bat yet.”
