DESPITE the very cold weather in recent weeks, Bathampton members have been enjoying good sport on a number of their venues.
Probably the best and most consistent venue is the Kennet and Avon Canal where boat activity has kept the water clear of ice for the most part.
Bathampton, Claverton, Diggers and Dundas have all been fishing well and in a recent match between Claverton and Bathampton the winner returned a double figure weight, with an average weight of 9lb 11oz from the top six individuals.
Pleasure anglers have enjoyed good sport with some notable perch to 2lb 8 oz taken on lobworm. Otherwise punched bread and pinkies on pole or waggler have produced nice roach and bream to 2lb.
The lakes too have given good sport even when it has been necessary to break the ice before being able to fish.
Steve Ball, from Corston, fished Newton Park Lake in near zero temperatures. He fished single red maggot on a 20 hook and after a slow start took some fine roach, topped by a fine 1lb 10oz specimen.
At Withy Pool Keith Pope, from Bath, took some fine roach to 1lb and perch to 14oz after spending almost an hour to clear the ice. His fish fell to pole-fished maggots. Mike Taylor, from Keynsham, fished alongside Pope and had two fine perch over 1lb each, once again taken on red maggots.
