TOM Biggs has urged Bath to start replicating their LV= Cup form in the Aviva Premiership as they return to league action against bottom-of-the-table Newcastle.
Biggs helped Bath book a home LV= Cup semi-final against Leicester Tigers and top Pool One with an emphatic bonus point victory over Exeter Chiefs last Sunday.
The 27-year-old proved the star man in Bath’s attack as they thrashed the Chiefs 31-3 at Sandy Park, Biggs grabbing a hat-trick of tries.
The winger says that the LV= Cup has become an important competition for his team but was keen to stress the importance of tomorrow’s meeting with his former club in the Premiership (2.15pm).
“It was a good win for us and the semi-final will be a great occasion – the LV= Cup is a big cup for us because there’s also the chance to qualify for the Heineken Cup at the end,” said Biggs, who joined Bath from the Falcons in 2010.
“It’s always great to get tries and confidence is high in the squad with the competition for places we’ve got but we’re not where we want to be in the Premiership.
“We need to improve and this weekend will be a really tough game – they’ve been given a boost with (ex-England forwards coach) John Wells coming in and they’ll really test us.
“We have to be at our best in the right areas and we know we’re not where we want to be at the moment, so it’s up to us to put that right.”
Bath’s home LV= Cup semi-final against Leicester Tigers will take place on Friday, March 9 (7.30pm).
