TROWBRIDGE racer Victor Cox secured a podium position for a second race in a row as he finished a brilliant second at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Riding his ILR Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship, Cox was second fastest overall in free practice.

He was the highest-placed Kawasaki rider on the grid in third, just over half a second off pole.

Dry weather again prevailed for the race as Cox got a great start to quickly settle into third behind David Johnson and championship leader Keith Farmer.

As they completed their second lap, Johnson moved into the lead with Cox 0.67 seconds clear in third and right on the tail of Farmer. Cox moved into second as the safety car came out for a couple of laps and, when they resumed, set about overhauling race leader Johnson, who was only fractions of a second ahead.

Johnson held on, but Cox had the consolation of setting the race’s fastest lap and moved to within a point of the top four in the championship standings.

After getting on the podium in second in the same meeting last year, Oulton Park is proving a favourite track for Cox, who said: “I am really happy after our second place finish on Sunday.

“The team did a fantastic job all weekend working hard, so to get them a podium finish was great.

“I felt really good in the race with the bike working well and I think if the race wasn’t cut short maybe we could have pushed for the win.

“A second place finish was mega and getting the fastest lap of the race was good too.’’
