CRICKET: Wiltshire beaten in trophy final

Wiltshire 184 all out

Cumberland 186-3

There was no fairytale ending for Wiltshire in the MCCA KO Trophy as they were beaten by seven wickets at the hands of Cumberland in the final earlier today.

After rain delayed the start of play until around 4pm at the Wormlsey Cricket Ground in Buckinghamshire yesterday, the county side lost wickets regularly and ended the day on 148-8 after 36 overs.

Jayden Levitt hit 28, Tahir Afridi made 25 and skipper Joe Breet reached 22 while Cumberland’s Chris Thompson took a hat-trick as he claimed the wickets of Henry Langford, Owen Alsop and Tom Bowler in quick succession.

Then earlier today, Wiltshire were eventually all out for 184 after 45 overs after Ashur Morrison’s weighty knock of 59 but their opponents raced to their target, with Josh Tolley whacking nine fours and a six on his way to scoring 67 runs off 78 deliveries.

Jonathan Miles made 41, while Liam Livingstone and Cumberland captain Gary Pratt brought the trophy to Cumberland by scoring 16 not out and an unbeaten 24 respectively.

Livingstone secured the trophy for Cumberland and ended the Wiltshire dream with a boundary.
