Victor’s in the points again

Victor Cox continued his encouraging start in the Metzeler National Superstock Championship when he again finished in the points at the third round at Oulton Park.

After his last race success at Thruxton, Cox, from Staverton, near Trowbridge, riding the Yamaha R1 for the VC/STP Motorsport, enjoyed a very encouraging mid-morning free practice session on Saturday, ending 12th with only a few 10ths of a second separating him from the top eight.

Sunday saw the second round of qualifying much less straight forward, with damp patches on the track and with the temperatures lower than Saturday Cox had to make several trips into the pits for adjustments to the suspension settings.

This inevitably led to him qualifying in a much lower and disappointing position of 22nd. Overall he finished 14.

Cox made a good start to Sunday's race and he passed several slower riders but had a nasty moment on the first lap. Coming into the fast right-hander at Druids on cold tyres he was a bit late on the brakes and nearly ran off the track. This dropped him back four or five places.

With speeds approaching 140mph Cox decided to give it everything and finally passed the chequered flag in 1nth place.

Cox said: "Without that incident I could have easily been in the top eight, but I still can't believe we have more championship points considering this is only the second point-scoring round.

"To finish as convincingly as I did is all credit to Ben and Chris, our two mechanics, and Stewart Rogers, the team manager. I know 10th isn't what you would expect to get that excited about but another six points to us is a major achievement. With a total of 12 points we are now lying eighth in the championship."
