WILTSHIRE players still have a chance of a dream place at the Open Championship at Muirfield next month after regional qualifying yesterday.
Charlie Cossins, who is from Bath but plays out of the Cumberwell Park club near Bradford on Avon, shot 71 at the event at Remedy Oak club in Dorset to earn one of the 11 qualifying spots for local final qualifying in Scotland next Tuesday (July 2).
He was joined by Wiltshire county amateur Robbie Busher (Salisbury & South Wilts), who also went through after a 73.
Cumberwell Park’s Matt Swales, Broome Manor’s Miles Mackman and High Post amateur Corey Sheppard all shot 76 and are on the reserve list for local final qualifying.
Wiltshire’s Josh Loughrey (78), Cumberwell’s Ryan Cardwell (81) and Chris Hiscock, from Kingsdown near Box (82) were among those to miss out.
Broome Manor amateur Yoshio Takeuchi is on the reserve list after shooting 73 at the qualifying event at Little Aston, but Bowood’s Sam Matton shot 76 to miss out.
At Hankley Common, Cumberwell’s Louis Boston missed out after a 77.
Cumberwell Park pro Steve Surry is also expected to take part in local final qualifying for a place in the year's third major championship at Muirfield from July 18-21.
