BOWOOD'S Jordan Smith booked his place in the last 16 of the English Amateur Championship at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire this morning.
Wiltshire player Smith, from Derry Hill, came through a closely-fought battle with Ben Wheeler (Purley Downs) to reach the third round in Oxfordshire.
The 20 year old, who posted the second-best score in the two strokeplay qualifying rounds earlier this week, trailed one down to his opponent at the turn, but turned that deficit on its head to win one up.
Brabazon Trophy winner Smith, a beaten semi finalists last year, was due to take on Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park) for a place in the quarter finals, teeing off at 2pm this afternoon.
