TROWBRIDGE golfer Steve Surry is hoping to capitalise on his good end-of-year form to qualify for a second top tournament in South Africa tomorrow.
Cumberwell Park touring pro Surry, 31, will contest Tuesday's qualifier for this weekend's Alfred Dunhill Championship at Irene Golf Club, hoping to earn a place at the main event, which takes place at Leopard Creek Country Club, on the edge of the Kruger National Park from Thursday.
The Wiltshire man pocketed just under £3,000 despite a disappointing final round at the South African Open Championship at Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Surry, whose opening round 68 had left him on the edge of the top 10, was still in line for a hefy pay cheque when he shot 70 in the third round to lie five under par.
However, a 78 on the final day slipped him down the field.
The €1,500,000 Alfred Dunhill Championship is another event co-sanctioned by both South Africa's Sunshine Tour and the European Tour.
