WILTSHIRE headed into the final day of golf's South West Week at Royal North Devon GC this morning still in with a chance of lifting the inter-county matchplay title.

Pete Bicknell's men stayed in contention for the pirze with and 8.25-5.75 victory over the host county yesterday, thanks mainly to a superb display in the singles.

Wiltshire were taking on Gloucestershire today, with leaders Somerset, who were facing bottom side Dorset and second-placed Cornwall, who were taking on Devon, just ahead of them in the standings.

They romped into a 6-2 lead after the singles against Devon yesterday as their first four - Ali James (Cumberwell Park), Garry Slade (Bowood), Henry Pallas (Hamptworth) and Corey Sheppard (High Post) all won.

There were halves for Tom Law (Broome Manor) and vice-captain Paul Green (Marlborough), Bowood's Luke Gormabn also winning and only Marlborough'sa Simon Futcher suffering a defeat.

Dorset fought back in the afternoon with two foursomes victories, but Sheppard and Law won their match and a half from Gorman and Pallas helped see them home.
