JORDAN Smith's bid for the British Amateur Championship ended at the last 32 stage today.
Bowood's Smith was knocked out by Iceland's Haraldur Magnus at the first extra hole after a tight battle at Portrush in Northern Ireland.
Magnus edged the majority of the first nine holes, but the match was all square at the turn and never more than one hole was between the players going into the final stages.
The Icelandic player took the lead with a birdie on the 16th before both players birdied the next.
Smith bravely birdied the 18th the take the match into extra holes, but Magnus birdied the first extra hole to clinch victory and went on to reach the quarter finals in the afternoon with a 2&1 victory over Formby’s Paul Kinnear.
