LAURIE Canter made it a hat-trick of cuts made at the start of his debut European Tour season as bad weather once again affected the SA Open in Johannesburg today.

Canter, based out of the Cumberwell Park club in Bradford on Avon, was back out early at Glendower Golf Club today to finish his second round after the weather had struck yesterday, but the 26 year old reached the halfway point in style.

He birdied three of his last four holes to add a second-round 71 to his opening round 69 and book his place for the weekend, as he had at his opening two 2016 Tour events late last year in South Africa and Australia.

Canter started round three within striking distance of the leaders, but found the going tougher in the opening nine holes of round three, reaching the turn in three-over 39.

A further shot went at the 10th, with the Cumberwell man lying on four over for the day and back at level par overall for the tournament when play was suspended - and later abandoned - due to the threat of lightning for the third day in succession.

England's Daniel Brooks and South Africa's Brandon Stone shared the lead on 10 under par, with Keith Horne two shots behind in third.
