WILTSHIRE golfers Laurie Canter and Ben Stow remained in the hunt for places on the 2017 European Tour as the final round of the Qualifying School finals played out in Spain today.

Canter, from the Cumberwell Park club, near Bradford on Avon, and Stow, from East Knoyle near Warminster, both made the cut for the final two of six rounds to determine who would earn playing rights in the top tier of European golf for next season.

However, there was disappointment for Canter’s Cumberwell Park clubmate Steve Surry, who missed the cut after four rounds at the PGA Catalunya Resort near Girona.

Trowbridge’s Surry, 34, saw his hopes dented by back-to-back rounds of 75 after an opening round of 71 and a best-of-the-week score of 69 in final 18 holes couldn’t prevent him missing the cut-off point by six shots.

Canter though remained in with a real chance of securing a return to the European Tour, having earned his 2016 card through the qualifying route last year.

Rounds of 69, 66, 73, 73 and 71 left the 27 year old just outside the top 30 heading into today's final round, with only the top 25 and ties earning European Tour cards for next season.

Stow, who turned 26 last month, required a low final 18 holes to stand a chance.

Rounds of 69, 70, 73, 72 and 73 left him on one over par overall, some six shots off the magical top 25 mark.
