CUMBERWELL Park player Laurie Canter will tee it up for a second year in succession on the European Tour in 2017 after successfully coming through qualifying school in Spain today.

The 27 year old, who earned his 2016 playing rights via the same route last November, repeated the trick at the PGA Catalunya Resort near Girona after finishing inside the top 25 at the Qualfying School Finals.

Lying just outside the top 30 heading into the last of six rounds today, Canter holed a 10 foot putt at his final hole to card a two-under-par round of 70 to finish tied for 19th spot and ensure he maintained his card for next season.

Canter told the Wiltshire Times today: "I haven't been perhaps in the best pLAce with my golf but it's come around.

"I played very well last week (in the second stage of qualifying at Panoramica Golf & Sport Resort in Castellón) but this week was more of a battle.

"Even though the scores look good, even in the first two rounds I didn't feel like my game was too strong, but in the final two days, I played some great golf.

"I'm dead chuffed to get back there (the European Tour) again and I'm looking forward to the challenge in 2017.''

Fellow Wiltshire player Ben Stow, from East Knoyle near Warminster, shot 76 in his final round to miss out, although he is expected to continue to ply his trade on the second-tier Challenge Tour next season.

Canter's clubmate Steve Surry missed the cut, which came after the fourth round on Tuesday.
