CUMBERWELL Park’s James Cooper shot rounds of 66 and 69 to win the South Western Counties Amateur Boys title at Came Down Golf Club in Dorset.
Cooper recorded a two-stroke victory from runner-up Thomas Plumb (70+67 = 137), with last year’s runner up Taylor Stote (Enmore Park Golf Club, Somerset) in third.
In the qualifying round for the English Boys County Finals in September, Wiltshire’s team - including Cooper, Jamie Cooper, Harry Moule, Joe Retford, Tom Stagg and Dan Woodley - were beaten into second spot by Somerset.
Meanwhile, Wiltshire U14s put up a brave fight against Devon in the Jack Roberts League Match at Cumberwell Park.
Trailing 3-1 following the morning foursomes, the hosts put up a fine fight in the singles, winning two of them and drawing three.
The point in the morning was won by the pairing of captain Bradley Smith and Ben Wakeley, who also clinched an afternoon win, as did Lewy Hayward.
