THE captaincy at Kingsdown Golf Club is proving a real family affair in 2018 after brother and sister Andy Marquiss and Leigh Page were voted into office.

For the first time in the 138-year history of the club near Box, siblings will head up sections with Andy becoming club captain and Leigh the ladies' skipper.

Andy, who has been a Kingsdown member for 48 years and whose birthday was the day before the confirmation of his captaincy, said: "I am very pleased and totally overcome.”

The eldest of five children brought up in Bath, with Leigh number three, Marquiss plays off an eight handicap, featuring regularly for Kingsdown’s men’s Scratch team and winning the Buthlay Cup in 2016.

Leigh played golf abroad – in Antigua – where she lived for four years and is a founder member of Bath Netball Club.

The pair drove into office at the Captains’ Bowmaker competition, where they were joined by seniors' captain, Neil Tribick and junior captain, George Epsley, the team proving a formidable force to win top prize with 89 points.

Kingsdown's new membership year new membership year starts on April 1. Anyone interested in joining should either phone the club office on 01225 743472 or see kingsdowngolfclub.co.uk.
